Dear Difficult Difficult Lemon Difficult (Dress 208-217)

Dear Difficult Difficult Lemon Difficult (Day 163)

Right now is

Which is why i stuffed up for the second time in a week.

Apololololologies.

Dress I: Layers of folded matte silk reinforced to give it the sharp edge.

Dress II: The synthetic mesh is placed on a metal mannequin and then sprayed (a-la McQueen

) but instead of it being paint, the artist (not machines) sprays a variety of chemicals (each with a different colour reaction), that when coming into contact with synthetic mesh it eats away at the fabric in a three dimensional ‘ burn’ (hence the metal mannequin)

Dress III: inspired by Sydney Nolan’s paintings of Ned Kelly.

Dress IV: Spring/Autumn

Dress V: neckline is cutout of same shape as the appliquéd butterflies.

Dress VI: inspired by the art of the Mix Tape. The loop that looks like a ‘B’ is the curled ribbon/tape at the back of the halter tie.

Dress VII: fallen clock in appliqué. Halter neck dress.

Dress VIII: stone in a pool dress. Layers of mesh, beginning at the neckline and restarting at the ‘rock’

Dress IX: Himalaya dress. Hand painted silk.

Dress X: Inspired by the Eiffel-esque spire of the Melbourne arts Centre.

Ip.

Dear Ms Baulch (Dress 174)

Dear Ms Baulch,
You were my art teacher at high school- doing your very best to coax any artistic skill out of girls who took the subject out of laziness, and gently pushing those girls who genuinely loved the subject out of their comfort zones. In year ten I did my final (an exercise in pattern and oil pastel) on bats- a capture of my childhood, sitting in the moonlight cinema at the botanical gardens, as hundreds of fruit bats wheeled above, diving at the flickering lights. This dress comes first as birds (but is available in batman print as well)

Dearest Reader (Update)

Yo.
So I know this update situation is not ideal, I've really not been updating regularly, I'm under shitstacks of pressure right now, rehearsing full-time and preparing for stage managing two plays and co-hosting a radio show. It's really squashing me. So when I'm using my dad's camera (because mum took mine to india with her) and the batteries are flat i'm just stumped.
On a more positive note:
My dear friend Flo hosted an art party the other night. It was freaking awesome. I got all living statued up, and debued my Audrey costume, which was fun/frightening/hard/awesome. I re-drew all the dresses up for voting this month and put them on her wall (underneath a gorgeous art photography/linocut series and an origami mobile of the solar system.) and:
Dress 107:  3 votes (T.H, S.R & K.H)
Dress 108: 1 vote (T.H)
Dress 116: 2 votes (FLO.D.C and Raphael, her housemate- who does look like he sounds like he ought to.)
Dress 118: 3 votes (J.A.M, T.P and Alex Welch- who has a fish in his signature, and saved me from accidental fare evasion once, and is lovely.)
Dress 119: 1 vote (L.W)
Dress 122: 3 votes (C.C, E.L, and J.A.M)
Dress 123: 1 vote (N.S)
Dress 136: 3 votes (G.J, John Munroe -who will be an author. he has no choice, his name is too authorly- and Dumbledore... which I am considering counting.)
Dress 138: 1 vote (the esteemed D.W. Murray)
which is an awesome lot of votes!
I will be carrying around my drawings in the hope that I can get people to vote on them. I quite liked the reaction of people- having to touch the drawings to vote (they were instructed to sign their initials) made it an interesing thing to watch.
I will post tomorrow as and when I have a chance.
All my love,
IP
P.S. new design! Thoughts?

Dearest Eve (Dress 143)

Dearest Eve Yamouni,
You're inexpressibly amazing. Talented Artist, Lawyer, Cook and Playwright. You're part of the tight-knit community of artists who were in and out of my childhood home(s). Every time we moved, you moved with us- apparently you were doing a lot of moving around yourself, I can't remember the other houses- only the one in South Yarra, the apartment with the balcony view above the Botanical Gardens and the abundance of ferns and indoor plants. I remember hours spent drawing in oil pastels (the kind whose quality assured you should never let a child near them) whilst drinking lemonade and listening to Vivaldi. Everything about you is class and sophistication. Today's dress is a combination painted/preforated number in black and white. Complex structurally, but aesthetically simple and straightforward.

Dear Darryl (Dress 122)

Dearest Darryl,
We used to go to your lifedrawing classes, my mum and I, every wednesday of my year 12. I don't remember his name, but there was a fellow there that did a lot of hypercolourful works in conte chalk and paint. I remember his teeshirts at the end of the three hour artwork extravaganza were covered in psychadelic smears of paint- the product of a brush absentmindedly cleaned in an almost feathery pattern from right hip to left shoulder. Why not make a dress a palette? I'd love to make this dress in plain white, and just let artists go wild in a range of them- have someone do action paintings, pollock-esque, or rennaisance oils, or dusty brilliantly coloured conte chalk.
This drawing is a little on the simple side in terms of colour, it's meant to be an example of what you could do with a white version of the dress.
The 'hole' on the right is meant to be a hole to the skin, but I think I drew it a little to large, if it were smaller i'd like it to show just a little of the under-breast.
All my love,
IP.

To Sir Duncan Campbell, Bart Esq. (C/O Henry Raeburn, Australian National Gallery.) (Dress 64)

To Sir Duncan Campbell, Bart Esq.

you cut a dashing figure in your military regalia, a style which I feel has been (in my personal opinion, alledgedly, with all due respect) tainted by the late M.Jackson. I say we bring back the fresh tomato red, mustard yellow and charcoal combination! Gold buttons FTW.
I'd like to take a moment to mention the gorgeous frame on this- I'd love to do some architectural work to create that kind of impression in upholstry fabric...

Dress Specs: Gold braid, red wool on yellow cotton, and black cotton.

Dear Frida (Dress 63)

Dear Frida,
You always entranced me- warm, strong in conviction and passionate. I walked in on my boyfriend's sister watching part of Schindler's List (which I'm embarrased to say I've never seen...) and saw (what I think was) the stunning Caroline Goodall, playing Frau Schindler- a picture of restrained german femininity. I wanted to show that beautiful crispness of her features with a quiet element of Kahloesque rebellion underneath.
(Sorry for the breif blog- but I'm off to keep watching.)

(Dress Specs: pearl beads, with a lace below (b/w pearls and the collar) silk body, hand painted veuns in green-black.)

Dear Mondrian (Dress 34)

Dearest Mondrian,
I meant today's dress to be a subtle tribute- it turned out just kinda silly; but I think it'd be a nice summer staple. Light cotton with white lining.

Dear David Behar-Perahia (Dress 15)

Dear David Behar-Perahia.
Your gorgeous works captivated me at the Beit Ticho exhibition in early January, and have rested on my mind since.
http://ww.imj.org.il/exhibitions/2009/VideoDrawing/Bhar-Perahia.html
Today's dress mixes the physical act of drawing in time to music, and the act of drawing on the human body- the dress will be tight, with the contours of the lines drawn on in chalk, and then printed on with fabric paint.

All my love,

Dearest Dana (Dress 5)

Dearest Dana S.,
Your gorgeous part of the lovely MADCube (Monash University Student-Run Gallery) Exhibition (Co-Curated by Flo D.-C.) had a strong emphasis on the prettiness of vintage pictureframes; and when I saw two people today wearing cutout-style clothing (the old-style ripped jeans-knees-look and the new striped leggings look- where there are slits laddering down the sides of the legs.) I just couldn't help but put it into the day's design.
I'm not happy with the drawing- I had such a clear image of the dress in my mind, but i'm not yet sure how to represent elements of that. The 'shredded' look on the sleeves and neckline is meant to be fraying, and the frames themselves are made of a slightly tougher linoleoum-esque material (so that the fabric does not stretch/warp). There is also a round/oval frame version.
Thanks Dana, for making (with the wonderful Flo) a lovely exhibition which I really enjoyed, and which (as would be obvious, seeing as it popped up in my work two weeks later) really stayed with me.
All my love,

Dear Mr Jarmusch,

I think you're almost entirely right.
